Catly developer denies using AI to create trailer for The Game Awards

It's been a few days since the Game of the Year award ceremony at The Game Award 2024, which has seen a lot of drama, from small issues to big issues that even people who aren't in the industry should have seen the news about, to negative news from a game called Catly, which was one of the games that was first introduced in the event. The game is about raising cats with realistic graphics. The gameplay or what Catly presented is not strange or bad. But what many people are curious about in this game's trailer is the graphics in the game, which look strange, like they were made by AI. If only a few people thought this way, it wouldn't be a problem. But almost everyone in the gaming industry thinks the same way. Until the developer of the game Catly came out to deny the use of AI to make the trailer shown at The Game Award as untrue.

After watching the trailer, what do you think? If we were to answer in layman's terms, we probably wouldn't be able to tell where AI is used. But those in this line of work can tell and say that this trailer really does use AI. As Eurogamer noticed, the developer Catly has shared this statement with IGN and Game Developers, claiming that all the allegations are not true. They also provided both media outlets with development images and work-in-progress information, stating that the game is real and does not use any AI technology in it. They also denied the allegations that the game uses blockchain technology, as some people have dug up SuperAuthenti, a company that has made blockchain games before. This game may not be the real game we get to play as the trailer suggests.

“We did not use AI in the production of this video or game, and we were very surprised by such speculation,” a SuperAuthenti spokesperson said. We do not think that any existing AI tools could create such videos, and industry experts agree with this opinion.” They revealed that Catly was created in Unreal Engine 5, and that various software was used to make the fur look more realistic. Regarding the allegations regarding blockchain and NFTs, the spokesperson said, “Catly is not a blockchain game. There are no NFTs. Our company/project has never issued any blockchain currency or NFTs. Our company does not own, and has never owned, any blockchain currency or NFTs.”

And finally, the confirmation of this matter from Mr. Ben Brode, the game director of Hearthstone, came out to respond to this comment saying, "I saw about 20 minutes of gameplay footage of this game a few months ago and thought it looked cool. The cat looks realistic." It can be said that the accusations have been completely put to rest in one place because it has received confirmation on the Steam page like this, which means that it should be real. The rest will have to wait and see if the game will come out as true as said. Because before this, we had doubts about the game Black Myth Wukong if it was real or not because the game's graphics were too beautiful. When the game was actually released, many people stopped wondering. Which this game should be like that, who knows?
