If you ask why many people still subscribe to Netflix, one reason would be because Netflix has a lot of fun Korean series for us to watch, both dubbed and subtitled in Thai, both old and new, and there are many genres to watch. It can be said that just watching Korean series is enough to make time for nothing else. However, some people don’t really like Korean series because they are mostly romance series. Netflix should know this, so they have brought us many genres of Korean series to watch. One of them is the medical series The Trauma Code: Heroes on Call, a series based on a Korean manhwa that has just released 8 episodes for us to watch. I can say that it is so much fun that you can’t stop watching it. Let’s see what’s interesting about this series The Trauma Code: Heroes on Call, let’s review it together.
The synopsis of the series The Trauma Code Heroes on Call, the hour of cheating death, will tell about the lives of doctors in the emergency department in Korea. As we all know, accidents can happen at any time. Doctors and nurses must be prepared 24 hours a day. The story will be told through Dr. Yang Jae Won, a doctor in the rectum and colon department who is on duty in the emergency department (doctors have to take turns taking care of this department). Because he is not good at this type of work, he can act awkwardly. At the same time, there is a mysterious doctor named Baek Kang Hyuk who helps the patients. Before he says that he will be a medical professor in charge of this department, there is an experienced nurse named Chun Jang Mi as the emergency department team. All 3 of them have to fight for their lives, but life fights back. This leads to a story of fighting with doctors in the hospital who do not agree and fighting with the life and death of the patients that is fun to watch throughout the 8 episodes.
The story will be told through the mission of treating patients in various emergency accidents that come in through the treatment of Dr. Baek Kang Hyuk who often uses strange methods that are not in the textbooks to treat patients because he used to be a doctor in the war. In the war, there is not much equipment to use. In addition, there are many types of injured people. Dr. Baek has been through it all. So he knows what to do to save people's lives. Each time the patient comes in, it will be a serious accident. Along with the projection of the patient's internal organs to let us know how bad it is. Including the projection of the surgery scene where you can see the organs clearly. People who are afraid of blood and internal organs will definitely close their eyes.
And when it's not during the time-consuming treatment of patients, many people might think that the story in this part will be boring. But it's not like that at all. Because in addition to the fun of treating patients, Dr. Pack and his gang have to face senior doctors who are enemies of Dr. Pack. Because of helping everyone and treating them to the fullest, the budget of the emergency department has gone over the top, making the director and senior doctors unhappy, until a small war in the hospital occurs. Plus, Dr. Pack is the type who can curse without caring who or what. Especially when treating patients, even if he has to be shot, he is ready to treat the patients first and think about other things later. This makes him have enemies all around, making the story in the hospital just as fun as the treatment.
In addition to the unique character of Dr. Pack, there are also 2 other characters that add color to the story, namely Jao Tud and Mae Nak Leng, who are Dr. Pack's assistants who share jokes. The three of them have great chemistry. In addition to the fun that we have already mentioned, there is also a satire on Korean medical treatment (including ours) where many times doctors do not care about their patients. When it is time to get off work, they will not work anymore, and they do not care if the patient is dying or they will not help because it is not their job. They will also not accept seriously injured patients because they are afraid that the treatment cost will be high. If the patient does not have money to pay or cannot claim the cost, the hospital will have to bear this. As a result, the ambulance has to run to find a hospital that will accept the patient until the patient dies. But Dr. Pack accepts everyone and also goes to the scene of the accident. Therefore, it is not strange that most doctors do not like him. This series is like a full slap in the face of those doctors.
Now let's talk about the disadvantages of this series. As we mentioned earlier, many people don't like watching Korean series because they don't really want to watch love stories or some series that focus on lawyers, doctors, survival stories, and even ghosts still secretly include the love story of the main characters to create color for the viewers to imagine. But this series has nothing like that at all. There really isn't anything like that. There's not even a heroine or someone you think will be the heroine or characters who will imagine or like each other in the story. There really isn't anything. The story focuses on Dr. Baek and his gang and the treatment only. Plus, the story moves very quickly. It ends with one story and then the next, leaving the viewers with no time to catch their breath. It turns out that if they accidentally turn their attention to something else, like going to the bathroom or talking to a friend, they might skip important parts when they watch it again. That's a major disadvantage of this 8-episode series.
Another thing is that Dr. Pack is too perfect, to the point that sometimes we don't even have to worry about whether the patient will survive if Dr. Pack takes action. And another thing is that we don't have to expect anything, that is, we won't get any basic medical knowledge from this series, such as what to do if something like this happens. It's different from other medical series that tell us something, but in this series there's nothing like that to tell the audience. Plus, this series uses medical terms so frequently that even though there are subtitles explaining what it means, we, the audience, are still confused.
In conclusion, anyone who likes a series with a story that comes and goes quickly, focuses on the main content but has little substance, has jokes here and there like in the Korean style, has unique characters, both the main character, the villain, and the supporting character, and is not as boring as you think, must not miss it. And if I had to rate it, I would give it 8.9 out of 10. The advantages are as praised, the disadvantages are as mentioned. Anyone who is interested can go watch it on Netflix now. Then you will know that being a doctor is easy, but being a good doctor is harder than you think. When you finish watching, you will both love and hate doctors and nurses at the same time.
