Time flies like a lie. Before long, the old game consoles that we used to enjoy playing in the past have become just collectibles left to collect dust in the cabinet, waiting for us, the owners, to come back and play and enjoy them again. One of them is the portable game console, Nintendo 3DS. In the past, this game console created both positive and negative feedback for fans. Many people say that the Nintendo 3DS was both a success and a big scar for Nintendo. And on February 26, 2011, it was the 14th anniversary of the release of Nintendo 3DS. Let’s look back at the story of this game console and see what interesting things it has. Let’s take a look together.
Nintendo has always dreamed of making a 3D game console. Therefore, it began experimenting with stereoscopic 3D video game technology in the 1980s with the Famicom 3D system, an accessory consisting of liquid crystal shutter glasses and supported games, which was Nintendo's first product that enabled the creation of stereoscopic 3D effects. One of Nintendo's most notable games was the Famicom Grand Prix II 3D Hot Rally, which was developed jointly by Nintendo and HAL Laboratory, and released in 1988 for the Famicom 3D system. Unfortunately, the 3D accessory and game did not receive any attention from the market. To the extent that the Famicom 3D games and accessories were never released outside of Japan. Nintendo also made the Virtual Boy and some GameCube games that featured 3D games that penetrated or recessed the screen twice, until the Nintendo 3DS finally arrived
The Nintendo 3DS is a dual-screen clamshell portable game console manufactured by Nintendo. It was officially announced in March 2010 as the successor to the wildly successful Nintendo DS. The Nintendo 3DS's most notable feature is its ability to display stereoscopic 3D images without the need for 3D glasses or other accessories. Development on the console began in late 2009, at which time Nintendo controlled 68.3% of the handheld gaming market. In October 2009, tech tabloid Bright Side of News reported that Nvidia, the developer of the recently successful Tegra System-on-Chip graphics processing unit (GPU), had been tapped by Nintendo to develop hardware for its next-generation portable game console. That was the beginning of the Nintendo 3DS.
The Nintendo 3DS was launched beautifully but came with an outrageously high price tag of $249.99. It seemed too expensive for a portable game console, not a large console that shouldn’t be this expensive. Nintendo was confident and shouted out loud that it must sell!!! It will sell for sure!! It will sell! It didn’t sell very well. It could be lowered... until it was $169.99 or 5,733 baht. Until those who bought it early started to complain. Nintendo consoled them by giving away ten of their old games that were going to be sold on the Nintendo eShop for free: ten Famicom games and ten Game Boy Advance games. The console slowly sold like hotcakes, just as Nintendo had hoped. However, Nintendo suffered a huge loss from the lower price of the console, but it was worth it because they were too confident at that time.
Up until now, the Nintendo 3DS family has sold 75.94 million units, and there are many models available for us to own. Those who are interested can try to find them at second-hand stores and check the prices depending on where they are sold. In particular, the first model has quite a few for sale. The most expensive model is the Nintendo 2DS, both foldable and non-foldable, because when this device was released, not many people were interested (people said the same thing: who wants a 2D 3D device?). And when Nintendo stopped producing the entire Nintendo 3DS and 2DS family, the Nintendo 2DS became expensive. Those who keep them in good condition will likely see their prices continue to rise. There are also many game cartridges for sale. Those who like old games are advised to find some to collect. And even though this device looks extremely durable, you will know that Nintendo is truly the king of portable games.
