Back in the past, when the video games we played were made into movies, anyone who has been in this industry for a long time now will know that in the past, games that were made into movies or movies that were made into games, both cases were usually bad to very bad in both ways. But these days, it's different because both series and movies are made much better. Some are praised by both the general audience and gamers. One of them is The Last Of Us series, which both gamers and general audiences say the same thing, that this series fully captures the feeling of the game, even though some people say that it's not enough or not good enough. And when it comes to season 2, gamers know that there will be a new main character added, which is Abby, a muscular girl who can break the neck of a zombie with one hand. But in the live-action series that was revealed, she is a fragile girl, making fans of the game not happy with this. So Neil Druckmann came out to explain this matter for the fans to understand.
Before we get into the content, let's get to know this one first. For those who have only watched The Last Of Us series, you may not know that The Last Of Us 2 game will add another main character. Who will have a role in the story parallel to Ellie's new journey. This character's name is Abby. She is a soldier of the Wolf group, an army that came together to survive in a cruel world. Their enemies are another group called the Seraphites, who are like a cult worshiping a goddess. Men must shave their heads and women must braid their hair and have scars on their cheeks. The two groups are fighting for territory. This is Abby's side of the story. Abby in the game is a big girl with muscular arms who punches men and kills zombies with her fists. It is completely opposite from the series. So much so that the creator and series supervisor, Neil Druckmann, had to come out and explain this matter himself.
"We prioritize performance over anything else. In the game, you play as both Ellie and Abby, and we wanted to give players a different kind of experience. So we wanted Ellie to be smaller and more mobile, while Abby was designed to be played like Joel, with the physical abilities of a wild animal, with the power and strength of a beast. But in the show, we don't necessarily have to do that in the game, because there's not as much action, but more drama. I'm not saying there won't be action in the show, but there's just a different order of importance, and you have different ways of dealing with it."
And if anyone remembers, before this, some fans of The Last Of Us 2 game had come out to criticize Abby's body size in the game that it looked unrealistic. Many people reasoned that in a world that collapsed, food was rare. Eating a balanced diet like today is difficult. For Abby to have such a muscular body, even if she exercised for several hours a day, she would not have such muscles or strength. Compared to the flashback when she was just an ordinary little girl (pictured below), some said that in order to change her from a small girl to the way she is in the game, Abby would have to take a lot of steroids and whey protein, which is unlikely to exist in that world. While the men in her group looked normal and did not have as many muscles as her, it did not seem logical. So if what the gamers said were used in the series, it would make sense (I think).
"I personally think this is an amazing opportunity to explore someone who is perhaps physically more fragile than Abby in the game, but has a stronger spirit," said Craig Mazin, the series' writer and executive producer. That's what the series is trying to convey, and those who have played the game have said in unison that Abby has a strong spirit. I mean, her spirit is as fragile as Ellie's. (If you're going through both of them, your spirit and your heart are probably not human.) We'll have to wait and see in the series to see which direction this character will go and whether we'll like it as much as in the first season. Let's wait and see.
