You will need to travel back and forth between the dungeon and the village to rest at the inn and save up money to buy equipment for everyone. By repeating this process, you will gain gold, items, and levels simultaneously until you are strong enough to take on the area's boss.
Another thing you should learn is how to use various skills in combat. As you level up, you will sometimes gain new abilities, such as spells that increase defense, spells that boost attack power, and various other skills to help you in battle. However, don't use them too frequently because your MP (Magic Points) is limited.
