Finally, Marvel Rivals has released gameplay footage of Deadpool showcasing three different playstyles within a single character

When talking about the one character Marvel Rivals players have been dying to see since launch—waiting and waiting, yet always left hanging—it’s none other than the "Big Red" chatterbox. He’s the guy who desperately wants to be an X-Man but somehow always ends up as just a "trainee": Deadpool Deadpool is the ultimate troll. Whether it’s in comics, movies, or anime, he’s fully aware that he’s just a character in a game or a cartoon. This leads to his signature "fourth-wall breaking," where he’ll literally turn around to strike up a conversation with us, the audience

Before his official debut, Deadpool started messing with everyone's heads. He was spotted popping up in every single class—Vanguard, Duelist, and Strategist—causing total confusion. This sparked massive debates: some fans guessed he would actually be playable in all three roles, while others were convinced it was just another one of his pranks. Well, the wait (and the arguing) is over! Marvel Rivals has officially unveiled Deadpool, and he’s making a grand entrance by taking on all three roles simultaneously. Let’s dive into the details of what makes our favorite red-suited mercenary so interesting in this game!

It all started with Deadpool’s debut, delivered with his signature "jerk" energy. At first glance, most players naturally assumed he’d be a Duelist—no question about it. His dual katanas, pistols, and flashy combat style all pointed in that direction. But then, the trailer dropped a bombshell that left fans jaw-dropped: we saw Deadpool acting as a Vanguard, complete with a shield, and even a Strategist, slicing through enemies while simultaneously healing his teammates!

To make him even more "broken" and annoying to deal with, Deadpool comes equipped with a Comic Book mechanic that allows him to buff his various stats. While pulling out a book mid-fight usually makes you a sitting duck, the game seems to allow him to move around while choosing his buffs to avoid becoming an easy target (at least, that’s what we can gather from the trailer). He’s truly living up to his reputation—blending overpowered mechanics with pure, unadulterated chaos

While his combat animations might look similar across all three roles, the effects they produce are completely different:

Vanguard (Tank)

  • Unicorn Toss: Throws a plush unicorn that creates a protective shield and intercepts enemy projectiles.

  • Dashing Strike: A forward dash-and-slash that can be recast if it successfully hits an enemy.

  • Area Shielding: Attacks enemies while granting bonus shields to all nearby allies within range.

Duelist (Damage)

  • Katana Boomerang: Flings his katanas forward; they spin and return to him, damaging any enemies caught in their path.

  • Frenzy Dash: Dashes forward into a slashing frenzy, creating an area-of-effect (AoE) attack.

  • The Troll Screen: While attacking, "Deadpool" cartoons pop up to block the enemy's screen—classic griefing at its finest.

Strategist (Support)

  • Dual-Purpose Combat: Uses his dual pistols or katanas to damage enemies and heal allies at the same time.

  • Healing Zone: Deploys a dedicated healing area that mends allies within the vicinity until the timer runs out.

As for the remaining details, the game hasn't officially revealed everything yet. However, it’s safe to assume that only one Deadpool can be picked per team. For example, if a teammate locks in Deadpool as a Duelist, the other players won't be able to pick him in the Vanguard or Strategist roles. This adds a whole new layer of psychological warfare. When you see a Deadpool on the opposing team, you’ll be left guessing: "Which role are we up against?" until the fighting actually starts. It’s a total mind game!

Before this, fans often complained that the game had too many Duelists and kept demanding more Strategists and Vanguards. In a move of pure brilliance (and world-class trolling), the development team basically said, "Fine, here’s one character for all three roles at once!" Talk about a "pro-gamer move" from the developers—perfectly matching Deadpool’s chaotic personality.

Beyond the chaos of Deadpool, the game is also introducing a new map and new modes, including a highly requested 1v1 Duel mode and a Photo Mode for all you virtual photographers out there. The Team-Up system is also getting a major overhaul. Several existing synergies are being swapped out; for instance, the Peni Parker and Rocket Raccoon combo has been removed. In its place, we’re getting a new synergy between Peni Parker and Spider-Man. (Maybe this means Peni will finally stop getting banned so often!) With a massive list of balance changes and new features, the game is kicking off the new year with a bang. There is so much new content to explore that it feels like a whole new experience.

Get ready, heroes! Everything drops this January 16th. See you all on the battlefield!
