When talking about old games from the Famicom era, I believe that many people who were born or lived in that era must have many favorite games that we used to play. One of them must be the bombing game Bomberman. Because back then, no matter what kind of game cartridge you bought, whether it was 10 ni 1 or 9999999 ni 1, there must be a Bomberman game included. So it’s surprising that this game is in the memories of many people, especially the memory of when we planted a bomb to block our path, unable to go anywhere, and could only wait for the bomb to kill us so that we could play again (it’s unforgettable). December 19, 1983 was the 39th anniversary of the release of Bomberman on the Famicom. Let’s go back in time and look at this story together.
The Bomberman game is an action game developed and published by Hudson Soft for computers and game consoles such as NEC PC-8801, NEC PC-6001 mkII, Fujitsu FM-7, Sharp MZ-700, Sharp MZ-2000, Sharp X1 and MSX in Japan. But the most famous part is when the game was released on the Famicom with a story that tells the story of a robot named Bomberman who must find a way through the maze while avoiding or destroying enemies. By passing the scene will occur when we explode the rocks in the scene. Until we find a door hidden under the rock, we will pass to the next level. As well as power-up items that give us our abilities, they are hidden in those rocks that have multiple bombs placed at the same time. Increase the explosion radius to the point where we can detonate the bomb as we wish.
The game's origins were that Bomberman was created in 1980 as a technology sample for Hudson Soft's BASIC compiler for the PC, released in Japan in 1983 and for European PCs the following year. The Famicom version was developed by Shichiji Nakamoto, who reportedly took only 72 hours to port the PC version to the Famicom. Zero magazine stated that Bomberman incorporated gameplay elements from Sega's popular arcade game Pengo. The European home computer version was released under the title Eric and the Floaters instead of Bomberman to avoid associations with the terrorist bombings of the era.
The Bomberman game has 50 levels in total. The game on the Famicom has an ending that tells us that the Bomberman game is a prequel to Broderbund Software's Lode Runner game. When you clear the game until the last screen, Bomberman will transform into the main character in Lode Runner and continue his journey. If we say the name of the game Lode Runner, many people might scratch their heads and wonder what game it is. But if we say that it is a sand drilling game, many people might immediately understand.
From that day until today, the Bomberman series has continued to develop itself. There has been trial and error, adjustments, and additions from the beginning to the highest point and down to the lowest point. Until finally, the Bomberman game returned to its roots, which is to plant bombs, which has had many new versions. Currently, the playable version is Super Bomberman R 2, which is on every console, both PC. Anyone interested can go and play it. Or anyone interested in playing the original version will have to find old ROMs to play. Then you will know what it's like to plant bombs to block your way.
