JoJo's Bizarre Adventure Steel Ball Run has released its first trailer and announced its release date

Following the conclusion of JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: Stone Ocean on Netflix, fans worldwide have been anxiously waiting to see if a sequel would be greenlit. Since Stone Ocean effectively brought the original storyline to a complete close, Steel Ball Run represents a total reboot—set in a new universe with an entirely different plot. This shift led many to fear that Netflix might not continue the series, sparking endless rumors across international media. However, the wait is finally over! Netflix has officially announced the production of JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: Steel Ball Run and has just released the first teaser trailer. Let’s dive in and see what exciting details this trailer has in store for us

The trailer opens at the start of the Steel Ball Run race, a brutal, several-month-long, cross-country competition across North America, running from San Diego to New York City. The rules are open: competitors can use any vehicle, including their own two feet, but they cannot switch transport methods mid-race as there are frequent checkpoints along the way where arrivals are scored. The ultimate winner stands to gain immense wealth and fame, attracting participants from across the globe

Johnny Joestar was once a renowned and famous horse racer of his era, but a foolish accident of his own making led to him being shot and paralyzed from the waist down for life.
His life took an unexpected turn when he touched a mysterious "Steel Ball", which momentarily allowed his leg to twitch or move. Originally only attending the event as a spectator, Johnny decided to enter the great "Steel Ball Run" cross-country horse race to uncover the mystery and the secret behind the steel ball's power.

This quest sparked a developing friendship with an enigmatic foreign man named Gyro Zeppeli, a fellow competitor in the race. Gyro had his own specific, serious motivations for participating in the race (seeking amnesty for a child in his home country), and found himself being hunted by others during the competition. Johnny, in his pursuit of the truth about the mysterious power, became inadvertently embroiled in the dangerous affair alongside Gyro

The trailer initially portrays it as a conventional horse racing anime, seemingly devoid of the supernatural "Stands" that the series is known for. This mirrors the experience of many manga readers who, at first, thought it was just a sports story. However, as the plot progresses, Stands begin to appear in rapid succession, so much so that you might forget whether this is a cross-country race or an all-out Stand battle

Adding to the intrigue, both Johnny and Gyro start the journey without Stands or even any knowledge of their existence. Since only Stand users can see other Stands, the true thrill of this part lies in watching an ordinary man and a paraplegic hero fight against invisible, supernatural forces. It’s a unique struggle of human ingenuity versus Stand powers that makes this story so captivating

In addition to the new faces, a familiar name returns: Dio Brando (known in this universe as Diego "Dio" Brando). He joins the race as a top-tier British jockey, a formidable rival driven by a ruthless desire for victory. The story also introduces a colorful cast of key competitors early on, each with their own unique background and motivations.
As the race progresses, the plot thickens into a massive conspiracy involving the President of the United States, Funny Valentine. It is revealed that the cross-country event is merely a front for a much deeper, darker agenda: a nation-wide search for the scattered pieces of a legendary "Holy Corpse" to ensure America's prosperity

The first trailer alone has left fans screaming with excitement. For those who still think this is just a simple horse racing anime, don’t let the visuals deceive you. And if you’re questioning whether a paraplegic lead and a quirky partner can carry the story—don't doubt it for a second. Gyro Zeppeli is perhaps the most "human" and well-developed character in the entire JoJo's Bizarre Adventure series; his backstory is so compelling that you can't help but fall in love with him. Meanwhile, Johnny follows the legendary Joestar lineage—starting as an underdog but showing glimpses of god-like genius when the situation demands it.
The anime adaptation of JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: Steel Ball Run is officially set to premiere on March 19, 2026, on Netflix. This release date, confirmed in late 2025, marks one of the most anticipated events for anime fans worldwide. Rest assured, as soon as the second trailer drops, we will be the first to report it to you!
