Former editor Torishima talks about Dragon Ball Super

When talking about legendary anime manga, many people undoubtedly think of the Dragon Ball series. Even though the author, Akira Toriyama, has been dead for almost a year and the Dragon Ball Super manga has been on hiatus since episode 103, we haven’t seen any new episodes of the series since. Many people are secretly worried that Dragon Ball will end here, because until now there has been no progress. Most recently, at the recent Jump Festa event, former Shonen Jump magazine editor Torishima Kazuhiko gave his brief opinion on Toyotarou’s Dragon Ball Super, saying, “I want to tell the artist himself that it’s still missing the most important part. It’s such a shame.” A short phrase with hidden meaning.

This story took place on the X of ゆう坊&マシリトのKosoKoso放送局 (there is no mark on the name), which people in the industry know as the X account of Mr. Torishima Kazuhiko, the former editor of the magazine Shonen Jump. He posted a picture of himself pointing at the original Dragon Ball Super by Mr. Toyotarou and said, "At Jump Festa, I found the original drawing of Toyotarou." And in the second post, he talked about the content of Mr. Toyotarou's Dragon Ball Super, saying that it was still missing the most important part, which he only said without explaining what he meant by saying.

But there are also fans of the Dragon Ball series who have come together to think and interpret what Mr. Torishima said. That Mr. Toyotarou's work in episode 103 is too suffocating. The image relies on zooming in on the characters' faces more than wide-angle fighting. And relying too much on speed lines at the cost of reducing the scene. But this does not make Mr. Toyotarou a bad artist. But it emphasizes the clear limitations of his skills. When Mr. Toriyama was still alive, he often faced harsher criticism from Mr. Toyotarou's linework when the two worked together at Shonen Jump. That's just the opinion of a manga fan. Not what Mr. Torishima said. Anyway, take it with a grain of salt. Because we don't know what Mr. Torishima wrote on the X.

For those who don’t know, Torishima is one of the important figures who was a turning point for Professor Toriyama. If it weren’t for him, we might not have seen Dragon Ball come into being. When Professor Toriyama was starting to reach his saturation point with the Dr. Slump series, Torishima suggested that he write a kung fu fighting manga that he liked, which led to the Dragon Ball series. He was one of the people who ordered Toriyama to cut out the villains, the artificial intelligence numbers 18 and 19, because they were old people and fat people who didn’t seem like villains at all. So Toriyama designed numbers 17 and 18. Torishima scolded Toriyama, saying that these two characters were just little brats. Finally, Toriyama created Cell. It went through many redesigns before Torishima was satisfied with the Cell character we know.

Arriving at this point, I believe many people would rather ask Mr. Torishima about Dragon Ball Dima than how he feels about this series. Because from the time it was released until now, it still hasn't been fun. As for the Dragon Ball Super manga, it's still without any sign and quiet. Because from what I've found, I know that Dragon Ball Super is still quiet because of the copyright issue of Toriyama's work that still hasn't been resolved. So we have to wait and see when it will be finished. When Dragon Ball Super has a new episode, we will rush to report it to you immediately. Stay tuned.
