Overwatch 2 Extends 6V6 Playtest indefinitely

In the past, if anyone has played or seen the first Overwatch game, they would know that the selling point of that game was the 6v6 team battles that were 2 2 2. The development team said that playing 6V6 was too chaotic, so they cut it to 5V5, becoming 1 2 2. At that time, most players were okay with it and agreed. But when they actually played, the burden fell on the group's tank who couldn't carry the team. Many people yearned for the original 6V6 to return. The development team therefore indulged the fans by bringing back the 6V6 mode to play by referring to the characters played in the current 5V5 mode with no changes or additions. The response was better than expected. The development team said that they would like to extend the 6V6 mode indefinitely, at least until the end of this season.

The story comes from the X account of Aaron Keller (with a blue check mark next to his name), an Overwatch 2 game supervisor, who said, "We're continuing to expand the 6v6 playtest because players continue to find interest and excitement in the mode. Starting tomorrow, 6v6 will be moved to Arcade and will be available until the middle of the season. After that, Open Queue 6v6 with a single player line of up to 3 characters will resume as scheduled."

If you recall, 6v6 gameplay first launched back in November of last year during the Overwatch Classic event, and Blizzard was quick to realize how much fans loved the 6v6 game mode in Overwatch 2. Despite only being available for a few weeks, it quickly proved to be one of the most played modes in the game. The game later relaunched 6v6 into Overwatch 2 following the start of Season 14, and it was met with similarly positive reception. The 6v6 playtest was originally intended to run from December 17 to January 6, but it has now been extended.

The team consulted and decided to extend the second round of testing of the 6V6 mode indefinitely. The mode will remain as it is at least until the middle of the current season. When the original schedule arrives, the Open Queue 6V6 mode, which has at least 1 hero in each line but can have a maximum of 3 heroes in each line, will be available to play as scheduled. In short, the 6V6 mode that should be removed will still be there, but will be moved to Arcade mode. Open Queue 6V6 will be added for us to play as scheduled.

Read up to this point, for those who don't know, Overwatch 2 has become a free game that can be downloaded and played on both PC and PlayStation 4 and 5 consoles, and Nintendo Switch. We can transfer our PC accounts to play on these consoles (we can play alternately, the accounts are all linked). Anyone who is interested can try to find it and play it. And who knows, in the future the 6V6 game mode may be available to play in ranks. When that time comes, we will rush to report it to you immediately, so stay tuned.
