It's safe to say that the appearance of 50-year-old Leon S. Kennedy in Resident Evil Requiem was exactly as many expected. He's undeniably cool and fearless. The trailers showed us the many hardships he's endured to reach this point. What many will likely appreciate most is that in this installment, Leon can now use the chainsaw he used to attack enemies in Resident Evil 4 to saw them off, complete with incredibly cool action sequences. Furthermore, game director Nakanishi Akifumi recently revealed that the gameplay for Leon and Grace in Resident Evil Requiem will be split equally between action and horror.
This information comes from an interview with Akifumi Nakanishi via Automaton, who stated that in Resident Evil Requiem, approximately half of the gameplay will see players controlling Leon, while the other half will be controlled by Grace Ashcroft, the co-protagonist. Grace's part will be more of a survival horror game, similar to the style of previous Resident Evil titles, with combat and counter-attacks, but focusing on the terrifying atmosphere of darkness and the struggle to escape being hunted by unstoppable threats. Leon's part, on the other hand, will be more action-oriented, creating a balanced mix of horror and action to avoid one genre leaning too heavily towards the other, aiming for a harmonious blend of both.
Nakanishi explained that Leon's role will be significantly different from Grace's due to his background and attitude, making him unsuitable for a horror game. Therefore, players shouldn't expect to see him terrified of zombies in the same way Grace is. In other words, once the game shifts to Leon, forget about the horror aspect; you'll be getting a Leon more like in the Resident Evil 4 Remake.
Nakanishi hopes that fans will appreciate the contrasting roles in the two games, which feature distinctly different gameplay styles. He also stated that Grace is the most cowardly character in Resident Evil history, and that the two characters have vastly different levels of intensity, comparing them to jumping into a cold bath after a hot sauna.
And if anyone remembers, Capcom previously stated that the news about Leon appearing in Resident Evil Requiem was fake. However, recently, Capcom executives have denied that what the team said about Leon not appearing in Resident Evil Requiem was true. They clarified that the leaked image of Leon with his eyes closed was not real. The team never said that Leon would not be in Resident Evil Requiem.
