The third trailer for Resident Evil 9: Requiem (Resident Evil Requiem) has finally arrived, showcasing the return of the fan-favorite 'national husband,' Leon S. Kennedy. Now 51 years old, Leon proves he only gets better with age. He’s back with brand-new combat abilities, such as wielding an axe instead of a knife and even turning chainsaws against the undead—perfectly aligning with previous leaks and rumors.
But beyond Leon’s rugged new look, eagle-eyed fans have spotted something intriguing in this latest trailer. The voice and appearance of the woman Leon is communicating with bear a striking resemblance to Sherry Birkin from Resident Evil 2 and 6. This has sparked widespread speculation that Sherry is highly likely to make her return in this installment. Let’s dive deep and analyze the evidence behind this theory together
This theory originated from the X account Waleed (@Waleedx2007), who posted an intriguing observation: 'The character speaking to Leon is most likely Sherry Birkin. Her voice tone matches perfectly with her appearance in Resident Evil 6, her hair color is an exact match, and she serves in the same organization as Leon—the DSO.'
According to Waleed, the evidence lies in the third trailer. As Leon exits his vehicle, he is seen communicating via radio with a woman. At the 2:54 mark of the trailer, we catch a brief glimpse of the person Leon is talking to. Based on her hairstyle and hair color, fans are convinced this is Sherry Birkin, and certainly not Ingrid Hunnigan, Leon’s longtime coordinator from Resident Evil 4 Remake
It’s highly likely that Capcom intentionally included this detail to stir up hype. When asked if the mysterious woman is indeed Sherry Birkin, Capcom will probably play coy, staying silent with a smirk while keeping their lips sealed. However, fans aren't buying it, noting that her appearance is 'highly suspicious.'
Upon closer analysis, this theory holds a lot of weight. In Resident Evil 6, Sherry worked for the Division of Security Operations (DSO)—the same government agency as Leon. This makes it very plausible for her to either join the mission as a partner or act as his tactical support. After all, Sherry is a fellow survivor of the Raccoon City incident, and her connection to the series' core lore means her return in this chapter wouldn't be surprising at all
