A CGC Pristine 10 One Piece trading card was auctioned for $315,600 USD, amidst some interesting drama.

Since mid-last year, the trading card game (TCG) market in Thailand has experienced a massive surge in popularity. This trend includes localized Japanese hits like Pokémon TCG (Thai version), which sells out instantly, and homegrown Thai games like Battle of Talingchan, where rare cards now fetch prices ranging from thousands to tens of thousands of baht. The One Piece Card Game has also become a major focal point for collectors. Recently, a legendary Monkey D. Luffy (2024) Tournament Promo (OP05-119) from the 2023 Championship World Finals, graded CGC Pristine 10 (Gold Label), made headlines by being auctioned for a staggering $315,600 (approximately 9 million baht). However, the story behind this record-breaking sale is even more fascinating than the price tag itself. Let’s dive into the details

The story began with a landmark auction for the Monkey D. Luffy One Piece (2024) Tournament Promo (OP05-119) 2023 Championship World Finals, graded CGC Pristine 10 (Gold Label). It was sold for $315,600 (approximately 9,926,566 Thai Baht) through the Alt auction platform on December 4, 2025. This sale completely shattered the previous record for the highest-priced One Piece card ever sold. This is no ordinary card found in standard booster packs. It was a prestigious trophy card awarded at the One Piece Card Game World Finals 2023, the game's inaugural world championship. The top three winners (1st, 2nd, and 3rd place) were awarded these special promo cards, available in one of three languages: English, Japanese, or Simplified Chinese. The cards were issued in Gold, Silver, or Bronze colors, depending on the player's final ranking

The real point of interest, however, lies with the Gold 1st Place card. The winner of the tournament was a player named Guan Rong Quik from Malaysia. He chose to receive his Monkey D. Luffy One Piece (2024) Tournament Promo OP05-119 2023 Championship World Finals Gold card in Japanese.
According to the rules, this meant the English and Chinese versions of the Gold card were supposed to be immediately destroyed, ensuring that only one gold card in the world would ever exist.
But then, shortly after, an English version of the Monkey D. Luffy One Piece (2024) Tournament Promos OP05-119 2023 Championship World Finals Gold—the very card that should have been destroyed—mysteriously appeared on the market after receiving a perfect CGC Pristine 10 grade, and was subsequently auctioned off as detailed in the previous news

This situation will definitely require a thorough investigation, as a card that shouldn't exist was seemingly stolen and put up for auction. The identity of the seller, who profited, and who took the card has made this story increasingly intriguing. As of now, Bandai has yet to comment on the matter, so it's possible nothing further will come of it. Furthermore, a collector here in Thailand recently claimed to have acquired one of the other Monkey D. Luffy One Piece (2024) Tournament Promo OP05-119 2023 Championship World Finals cards. They stated it was sold to them by an anonymous individual. It's plausible that all the remaining "destroyed" Luffy cards are now already in the hands of various private collectors worldwide
