Tojima Tanzaburo wa Kamen Rider ni Naritai Episode 15: Ramen, Me and Him, Two of Us

We have reached Episode 15 of the story about a "Chuunibyou" man and the legendary Masked Rider (Kamen Rider) in the anime Tojima Tanzaburo wa Kamen Rider ni Naritai (Tanzaburo Tojima Wants to Be a Kamen Rider). And yes, you read that right—you are in the right place! This really is Tojima Tanzaburo wa Kamen Rider ni Naritai, not some idol romance anime like the cover might suggest.

This episode continues the story from the previous one, focusing on a seal-themed idol who has to live with a Spider Cyborg. Let’s see how this love story concludes and find out how it all ends!

For those who have just started reading, Tojima Tanzaburo wa Kamen Rider ni Naritai is a story about people who are obsessed with Kamen Rider. However, this current chapter shifts its focus to a Spider Cyborg.

Previously, she befriended a young female idol with a "seal-like" physique (as described in the series) who is a huge ramen lover. After a chance encounter, the two ended up living together. As many fans know, Shocker's high-level cyborgs undergo a complete brain-to-machine reconstruction, unlike the Shocker Combatmen, who only have their memories altered and can potentially break free from control.

Because of this radical procedure, the Spider Cyborg essentially became a creature with no understanding of humanity. Meeting this young idol and witnessing the events of her life has sparked a newfound curiosity within the Spider Cyborg about what it means to be human

If we set aside the "delusional" (Chuunibyou) obsession with ramen, this chapter tries to convey several key points. One major theme is that ordinary humans who possess martial arts skills are actually capable of holding their own against cyborgs—at least while the latter are still in human form. It is a subtle way of telling us that humans might have enough strength to fight Shocker even without a cyborg "Hero" Kamen Rider on their side.

However, humans are still a long way from truly defeating Shocker's cyborgs. When those cyborgs transform and get serious, the power gap becomes immense—much like the difference between a Rider in human form and their transformed state when fighting an enemy. Simply put, if the Spider Cyborg were to transform, the "Old Man with Glasses" wouldn't stand a chance

That’s not even counting the pure terror regular humans feel when they see the Spider Cyborg in its monster form, which can instantly shatter their morale. This is the complete opposite of Uncle Tojima’s group; they get even more fired up and ecstatic when they see a Shocker cyborg right in front of them, gaining a boost in fighting spirit rather than losing it.

Another core message this chapter conveys is that humans need to find a purpose in life. When we have a goal, we push ourselves to the absolute limit to reach it, but without one, we are just people drifting aimlessly from day to day. Furthermore, a goal aimed at gaining someone else's acceptance is even harder than a goal set for oneself. Yet, if we succeed, the feeling of being truly accepted by that person is the ultimate reward. That is the heart of what this chapter is trying to tell us.
