Many were left jaw-dropped following the announcement of the new Lara Croft for Prime Video's live-action Tomb Raider series, which is now headed into production. The role went to Sophie Turner, a stunning actress with an average build who, at first glance, might not seem like the Lara Croft we're used to.
However, once she put on the iconic glasses, the outfit, and the signature hairstyle from the games, fans were instantly sold, exclaiming, 'This is the real Lara Croft!' It corrects a long-standing misconception that Lara Croft must be overly curvaceous. While some jokes (incorrectly!) suggest she’s known for 'triangular' features, in reality, Lara has always had the proportions of a typical woman—it’s just that past film interpretations leaned towards the hyperbolic. Now, a leaked behind-the-scenes clip has finally surfaced, giving us a full look at Sophie Turner fully embodying the role of Lara Croft
The leaked footage comes courtesy of an X account named Infinity Tomb Raider, which describes itself as a 'fan account dedicated to the Tomb Raider franchise (games, series, movies, collectibles, fans...), in English and occasionally French.'
The account posted the behind-the-scenes clip with the caption: 'First look at Sophie Turner as Lara Croft on the set of the Tomb Raider series for Amazon Prime Video!' The video shows her trekking through the woods at a filming location in Surrey, England. In addition to the clip, several high-quality behind-the-scenes photos have also been released, giving fans an even clearer look at her transformation
According to the leaked info, Sophie Turner is performing her own stunts to ensure maximum authenticity (after all that training, she’s making sure it pays off!). However, as soon as the images surfaced, some 'critics' were quick to point out that her outfit didn't match the promotional photos or her iconic look from the games.
To those people, it’s clear you’re not a 'true' Tomb Raider fan. Anyone who actually follows the franchise knows that Lara Croft constantly changes her gear depending on the mission. While her signature teal tank top is burned into our memories because it’s her go-to jungle attire, she always adapts her wardrobe to suit the environment—a point also emphasized by the X account. Whether it’s tactical gear or casual wear, Lara dresses for the job, and this series seems to be staying true to that reality
That’s all the initial info we have for now, and we wanted to bring you the update as quickly as possible. As soon as there’s news regarding the official release date, the series trailer, or confirmation of a Thai dub for the Prime Video series, we’ll be sure to report it right here—so stay tuned!
For anyone who hasn’t played the Tomb Raider games yet, we highly recommend giving them a try. Once you do, you’ll understand exactly why fans are so passionate about this version of Lara Croft
