Going back to 1993, exactly 32 years ago, a cinematic phenomenon shook the world. Audiences were left in awe and terror as dinosaurs were brought to life on the big screen in Jurassic Park.
The film tells the story of a billionaire who purchased an island to resurrect dinosaurs and open a one-of-a-kind theme park. However, due to internal sabotage, the island’s security system was cut, allowing the dinosaurs to break free and cause total chaos, forcing the protagonists into a desperate fight for survival.
Years later, Xfinity, a telecommunications giant, created a commercial based on the original Jurassic Park. But they posed an intriguing question: 'What if the computer systems never failed, and everything worked perfectly?' Let’s take a look at this commercial
The commercial opens with a scene mirrored directly from the first Jurassic Park movie: the iconic moment where the protagonists are on the tour, stopped right in front of the T-Rex paddock. In the original film, the computer system begins to glitch due to internal sabotage, leading to the terrifying breakout of the T-Rex and forcing our hero to protect the children in a life-or-death escape.
However, in this commercial, because the computer systems are running smoothly, the dinosaur enclosures remain securely locked. Everyone continues their tour with a smile. It reveals an alternate universe where Jurassic Park successfully becomes a world-famous theme park full of happy visitors—a stark and fascinating contrast to the movie we know. (If you’d like to see a side-by-side comparison with the original scenes, check out the video below!)
The commercial itself is lighthearted and fun, cleverly using AI and advanced CGI to bring back the younger versions of the original trio—Ian Malcolm, Alan Grant, and Ellie Sattler. It’s a nostalgic trip that makes many fans smile. (Xfinity, feel free to sponsor us!)
However, if we look at it from a more serious cinematic perspective, even if the dinosaurs didn't escape back then as shown in the ad, Jurassic Park was always destined to fail. This is the 'inevitable law' of this cinematic universe.
Don't forget that in the Jurassic World trilogy starring Chris Pratt—which shares the same timeline—the park eventually collapsed anyway. In that era, despite having perfect technology, their ambition led them to create dangerous new hybrid species. So, even if the original park had survived its opening day, the creators would have eventually pushed the boundaries of nature too far, leading to an inevitable disaster. No matter the timeline, the park was always a ticking time bomb
At the end of the day, let's just enjoy this commercial for the laughs—a little treat for those of us who grew up with the original Jurassic Park. (And let's be honest, if you saw this in theaters, you’re definitely not a 'kid' anymore!)
To this day, the first Jurassic Park remains a masterpiece that is etched in our hearts. If you haven’t seen it, I highly recommend you do. This legendary start isn’t some 'cheap' production with bad CGI like many modern films. It features a perfect blend of life-sized animatronic T-Rex and groundbreaking visual effects that, quite frankly, put many of today’s blockbusters to shame. As for the later sequels... well, let’s just not talk about those
