In the gaming industry, there is an urban legend that has been passed down since last year. It is the story of the Nintendo Switch 2. Since the first rumor came out that Nintendo was secretly working on a new console, people in the gaming industry have been haunted by various rumors about the Nintendo Switch 2 throughout the past year. Until this year, instead of the rumors ending because each news is unreliable, it is the opposite because the rumors about the Nintendo Switch 2 are increasing. Recently, the manufacturer of Nintendo Switch accessories, Genki, brought Nintendo Switch 2 accessories to show at CES 2025.
This story comes from X, named Wario64 (with a blue check mark next to his name), who posted a picture of a mock-up console that he claims is the Nintendo Switch 2. He compared it to a picture of the original Nintendo Switch and found that it looks very similar, except for the size and shape of the new Joy-Con, along with accessories that Genki sells. He claims that the model that Genki showed off and used as a prototype for the accessories came from the real Nintendo Switch 2, no gimmicks. The X says, "Genki (a manufacturer of gaming accessories for Switch and other hardware) claims that the Switch 2 will be released in April. They also claim that the Switch 2 model is a replica of the Switch 2. They also say that the optical sensor on the Joy-Con is a new feature of the Switch 2, but they don't know what the "C button" does."
It's reported that many CES attendees got their hands on a prototype Switch 2 that was compatible with Genki accessories. The company has kept its promise last week that Genki would be bringing Switch 2 accessories to the event, and it's finally here. We don't know what Nintendo will do about this, because let's not forget that Nintendo is notorious for being very protective of its copyrights. Genki's reveal of the Nintendo Switch 2 model is a big slap in the face for Nintendo, as so far Nintendo has not revealed anything other than the name of the Nintendo Switch 2, only stating that the console will continue the success of the Nintendo Switch.
And what fans don't believe in this and see as teasing in the gaming industry is Nintendo's inaction (meaning not suing Genki). But some people have come out to say that Nintendo doing something may be a way to indirectly tell its fans, keeping quiet is the best thing. That's what some fans think. But there's another reason why fans see this as teasing: Genki said that its accessories will be available in April this year, which probably means that the Nintendo Switch 2 will also be launched after that. It would be strange if there were accessories available for a console that hasn't been released yet. But it wouldn't be strange if the accessories came before the console, but that would be a case where the images of the console were released and then the accessories followed. But the console hasn't even been released yet, so how can it be?
But some people argue that it's possible because Nintendo has said that details of the Nintendo Switch 2 will be released before the end of the current fiscal year. That could be any time between now and March 31, 2025. Some people even say that in the next few weeks, Nintendo may launch the Nintendo Switch 2 and sell it in April with Genki accessories. Who knows? In any case, let's keep our ears open and don't believe it too much until Nintendo confirms this.
