If we compare Overwatch 2 to a celebrity in the entertainment industry, we would have seen the peak of Overwatch’s life. Wherever we looked, people were playing the game and talking about it. It also received many awards and created merchandise for the game that sold like hotcakes. As time passed, Overwatch’s popularity declined due to itself, and players gradually disappeared. However, Overwatch still survived and did not disappear from the gaming industry. Then came Overwatch 2, which added more players and changed many things until the game started to get better. However, there were major competitors, so Overwatch 2 had to adapt and listen to its fans more. Recently, Overwatch 2 made a major change, which was to remove Clash mode from the ranked competition mode, according to the requests of fans who did not really like this mode.
For those who don't know, if we were to explain Clash mode simply, it's a competition to capture various points between two teams, where we have to fight to stay in that point until the time is up. When the time is up and we capture that point, we will move to the next point, and it will be switched back and forth in the scene. When Team A captures the middle point, it will move to Team B's side, but when Team B captures a point, it will move to the middle point that was just played earlier (confused? If anyone is confused, go read it again). Whoever can capture more points than the game specifies will win. Aaron Keller, Overwatch 2 Game Director, confirmed that Clash game mode will be removed from Quick Play and Competitive modes because it has some issues in some matches.
The main reason the team removed the mode was because matches were faster-paced than the typical Overwatch match, and some players were confused about where to go next or why they had to go back to where they had just left off. Due to player demand, Blizzard decided to remove Clash from Overwatch 2 entirely. The cuts will begin with Season 15 on February 18 to give the team time to look at the maps and find ways to make them more fun to play.
When this news came out, some fans did not agree and thought that Clash mode, although it may seem confusing for new players, for general players, it is not that difficult to understand. In addition, some games end very quickly if the other side is better, like continuously capturing and cornering the other side. Or if teams are equally skilled, they will compete to capture back and forth, which is fun to play, but most players do not like it. While some said that if the mode should really be removed, it should be Flashpoint mode because it is not fun to play. However, it depends on the opinions of different players.
And in addition, there is news that Overwatch 2 will make the 6V6 mode permanent because it is quite popular. Overwatch 2 has not confirmed or clearly stated where the 6V6 mode will be in the game. But fans expect that the 6V6 mode will be in Competitive alongside 5V5, which will be quite good. We will have to wait and see. In fact, this change in Overwatch 2 is a change to please the fans more. If the game does well and does the right thing, it may attract old fans back. We will have to wait and see in the future.
