First, let's talk about how the Shocker combatants liberated themselves from brainwashing. As many of us might have guessed, it was the power of love that allowed them to overcome it. Standard Shocker brainwashing works by altering brainwaves to erase original memories and replacing them with a system that forces obedience to the Augments. In contrast, the Augments themselves undergo surgical procedures for direct brain control. If Takeshi Hongo (Kamen Rider 1) had been successfully brainwashed back then, we certainly wouldn't have the Kamen Rider we know today (thankfully, he was rescued by a scientist within the organization).
Looking at the battle, our Tackle proved to be far superior to that female Shocker soldier. In fact, if the Bat Augment hadn't intervened to help her, Tackle would have secured a definitive victory already.
At the same time, the Bat Augment stands in stark contrast to the Spider Augment. Unlike Spider, he doesn't ask questions or harbor any curiosity; he simply follows orders and finds pleasure in them. His primary interest lies in increasing the Shocker population. As an Augment, he possesses the authority to convert humans into Shocker combatants (Geee), likely through a bite that alters their physiology and grants them superhuman strength. However, this process seems to have a flaw: the brainwashing can be broken when triggered by 'love.'
To put it simply, a deep emotional attachment to something can override and replace the mandatory directives issued by Shocker. Because of this vulnerability, Shocker must intervene and eliminate these defectors to prevent any information about the organization’s existence from leaking to the outside world
For those who have already read Tojima Tanzaburo wa Kamen Rider ni Naritai Chapter 16, you’ll know that the Bat Augment is the one responsible for the deaths of the Shimamura siblings' grandparents. While Mitsuba should logically be the most enraged, the narrative shifts focus entirely once Uncle Tojima makes his entrance. It's a classic contrast: while everyone else is paralyzed with fear by the Shocker Augment, Uncle Tojima is overcome with excitement and joy. However, no matter how boundless his spirit is, he is simply no match for the Bat Augment. Facing a total party wipe, they are forced to retreat.
This escape leaves a deep psychological scar on Tojima. In his mind, a Kamen Rider never runs away from an enemy. For a man as deeply immersed in his 'delusions' (Chuunibyou) as he is, being forced to flee has become a major trauma that challenges his very identity as a hero
