Are you aware that Elsa Bloodstone previously appeared in the Marvel Cinematic Universe series Werewolf by Night?
The wait is over! Marvel Rivals has officially launched its newest character, the stunning monster hunter Elsa Bloodstone. Originally announced at the start of Season 6, Elsa has finally joined the roster in this mid-season update, bringing a host of new content along with her.
Elsa’s gameplay kit focuses on mid-range shooting and tactical traps, designed to transition seamlessly into high-impact close-quarters combos. While long-time Marvel comic fans are likely well-acquainted with her, those who strictly follow the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) might not realize that she has already made her onscreen debut. Elsa Bloodstone appeared in the Disney+ Special Presentation, Werewolf by Night.
Let’s dive into the details of her journey from the screen to the game
Elsa Bloodstone’s story unfolds in the black-and-white special presentation, Werewolf by Night. The plot follows a gathering of elite monster hunters from the Marvel Universe, tasked with hunting down a legendary beast. This special draws inspiration from the classic 'werewolf' character—a semi-heroic figure from the early days of Marvel Comics.
The primary goal of Werewolf by Night was to bridge the gap between Marvel’s more mystical characters, such as Werewolf, Elsa Bloodstone, Man-Thing, Moon Knight, and Blade, eventually paving the way for the formation of the Midnight Sons.
As for Elsa Bloodstone herself, she was raised under the strict tutelage of her father, learning everything about monsters and the various ways to defeat them. She possesses supernatural sacred artifacts specifically designed to combat these creatures. Despite her immense skill, Elsa resents the ruthless hunting lifestyle her father embraced. However, hunting is in her blood; no matter how hard she tries to escape it, she is inevitably drawn back into the world of monsters
In the comics, Elsa Bloodstone first stepped into the spotlight as the lead character in the Bloodstone mini-series, which ran from December 2001 to March 2002. She was introduced as the daughter of Ulysses Bloodstone, the Marvel Universe’s most renowned monster hunter.
When it comes to her abilities, Elsa is a force to be reckoned with. She possesses superhuman strength, speed, and a regenerative healing factor. Most notably, she is immune to vampire bites—in fact, her blood is so toxic to them that any vampire foolish enough to take a bite will perish instantly.
A portion of her power is derived from the Bloodgem fragment she wears around her neck (which you can also see on her character model in the game). Furthermore, she inherited additional mystical traits from her father’s genetic legacy. You could say she’s doubly powerful, wielding both ancient magic and superior DNA
In Marvel Rivals, Elsa Bloodstone’s lore reveals that she spent ages battling demons within her own collapsing timeline. Her fate changed when The Collector stepped in to save her, subsequently hiring her as his personal multiversal hunter to track down rare creatures for his vast collection.
Of course, chaos ensued when Deadpool joined forces with The Collector. The 'Merc with a Mouth' ended up releasing the captive monsters, forcing Elsa to step in and clean up the mess. Surprisingly, instead of being annoyed, Elsa found Deadpool’s antics incredibly entertaining—seeing it as 'pure, chaotic fun.'
As for the monster Glartrox featured in her gameplay, it’s actually a parasite bonded to her brother, Cullen Bloodstone. In this universe, he serves as her monstrous partner-in-crime.
This is just a brief look at this fascinating character! If you’re interested in seeing her in action, be sure to check out the Werewolf by Night special on Disney+.
As for those wondering if Elsa Bloodstone will be the new 'hard carry' in Marvel Rivals, why not find out for yourself? She has been officially playable since February 13th. Also, a quick tip for those logging in: don't forget to hop on the parade float (the Valentine's procession) to snag some extra rewards!
See you in the game, hero
