Blizzard claims Jetpack Cat is just an ordinary cat; fans remain skeptical

It’s been a while since Overwatch made its flashy, show-stopping comeback, completely stealing the spotlight from almost every other game on the market right now. Anyone who’s jumped in agrees on one thing: 'Adding five characters all at once really ramps up the fun and excitement.'

With such a massive influx of newcomers, there’s bound to be that one 'standout' hero that everyone claims is totally broken. Enter Jetpack Cat—the Support hero who isn't exactly there to heal, but rather to cause absolute chaos for the enemy backline.

Recently, Blizzard dropped Jetpack Cat’s lore, claiming he’s just a regular house cat owned by Brigitte. However, fans aren't buying it; they’re convinced this kitty is much more than meets the eye

The playful chaos that has netizens overanalyzing every detail stems from a recent video detailing Jetpack Cat’s origins. To summarize: it's the story of an orange tabby Brigitte rescued at Watchpoint: Gibraltar, where she equipped him with a jetpack to fulfill her childhood dream.

In the video, we see Brigitte’s designs on how to make a feline capable of piloting such a device. This is exactly where fans started smelling a rat, questioning: 'What kind of "normal cat" could actually pilot a jetpack?' Even by Overwatch standards, this feels fishy. We already have a hyper-intelligent hamster who built a spacecraft to travel from the Moon to Earth, and a scientist gorilla who speaks human languages—both of whom were genetically engineered on a lunar colony. This has led many to speculate that Jetpack Cat might be a similar case. The fact that Brigitte found him at Watchpoint: Gibraltar—an Overwatch rocket launch site—is the primary piece of evidence fueling these fan theories

Now, let’s look at some of the theories being tossed around. One fan commented, 'Okay, this kitty is either a villain or a spy for sure. There’s no way he’s just a normal cat. Could he be another hyper-intelligent animal from the lunar colony?' Others are betting on him being one of Moira’s experiments, pointing to her in-game interactions as evidence. 'Moira has a voice line where she says something like "This cat is brilliantly sharp." Maybe she knows something about his true origins that we don't.' Another player added, 'I feel like we can rule out the "just a normal cat" theory entirely ever since he was added to the roster. No ordinary feline could command and control machinery with that level of precision, even in this universe

And then there are the wildest, most chaotic theories—like the one claiming, 'This kitty might actually be the new Doomfist!' For those who remember, Doomfist had his arm severed and was tossed off a cliff. Some fans are jokingly suggesting that Jetpack Cat is actually Doomfist's true form, pointing out that the cat’s pouncing move looks suspiciously like Meteor Strike.

While many are quick to jump in with, 'Relax guys, Doomfist isn't dead yet,' others have countered with the idea that this might be Doomfist’s personal pet. They even pointed to a scene where Doomfist is seen hugging a feline—except that was a tiger cub, not a house cat! Plus, even if it were his pet, wouldn't our little friend be playing for the villains instead of joining the heroes?

Or, looking at the most plausible theory: 'Didn’t Brigitte say she found him near the Horizon Lunar Colony transport docks? Is it possible he ingested some leaking chemicals or secretions from the spacecraft that caused an abnormal spike in intelligence?' Some fans even took it a step further, suggesting a darker twist: 'What if the kitty caught and ate a stray genetically-enhanced rodent—like Hammond—that escaped the rocket? He could have gained a boost in IQ through bioaccumulation!' The theories even stretch to the cosmic, with some guessing he might be Sigma’s cat, accidentally teleported to Earth when Sigma first gained his powers. But no matter how much fans speculate, Blizzard stands firm: he's just a regular cat. What about you? Do you buy it, or are you joining the conspiracy?
