Episode 48: Master of the Rings, The Final Winner

We have entered the final stage of the battle for the rings in the 50th Anniversary series, No. 1 Sentai GozyugerIn Episode 48, the story focuses on the Great Boss, the Demon of Destruction known as Lex. A god-like entity who brings calamity, ruin, and death to all things in the universe, Lex stands as the polar opposite of Tekasort, the Creator.

Now, Lex's ultimate goal is to recruit Kumada—the being who once served as the god who shaped this world—to join his cause. His plan? To unleash a destruction so swift and grand that it paves the way for a new beginning. For Lex believes that without destruction, nothing new can be born; it is an endless cycle of existence.

Which path will Kumada choose? How will the story unfold? Let’s dive into the climax of No. 1 Sentai Gozyuger Episode 48!

The story picks up right where we left off, as Kumada confronts Lex, the embodiment of destruction. Lex begins to explain the reason for his existence: that destruction, decay, death, and decline are the natural counterparts to beauty, birth, and creation. They are inseparable forces of the same coin.

However, Lex claims that Tekasort has been defying these laws of nature by prolonging human existence, using Rex to fight and protect them time and time again. In Lex's eyes, humanity should have been wiped out long ago. He asserts that even though he and his subordinates might be defeated or killed, they are merely the physical forms of demons—but the essence of Calamity itself is eternal and can never truly be destroyed

Naturally, as the God of Destruction, Lex is an entity that no one can kill. With a mere wave of his hand, his god-like power turns the Gozyugers into dust. Seeing this, Kumada is forced to unleash his final remaining power.

By drawing upon the "Prince of Destruction" essence from Goodburn, Kumada distorts reality itself, stripping Lex of his immortality. For the first time, a mortal blow can be dealt to the god. However, to save everyone and change fate, Kumada must make the ultimate sacrifice—giving up his own life to secure their future.

When Ryuki and Sumino are killed by Lex, their rings would normally pass to Hoeru by default. However, a crucial shift occurs: because Kumada transformed himself into a God of Destruction equal to Lex, he effectively intercepts the chain of succession. The consequences of Lex's actions now bind to Kumada as the new claimant of the rings.

As Kumada meets his end, his death triggers a massive surge of power. Every Sentai Ring in existence streaks through the air, converging upon Hoeru—appointing him as the Final Winner and the true master of all the rings

  • Lex’s Awakening: The awakening of Lex was actually triggered by Fire Candle, who served as the catalyst to rouse him from his deep slumber. This follows the incident where Lex consumed his own subordinates. Upon Fire Candle’s appearance, Lex "kindly" bestowed power unto him as a reward. The ultimate grudge match between Fire Candle and Hoeru is expected to reach its conclusion in the next episode.

  • The Tragedy of Sumino: Sumino is undoubtedly the most tragic character. She met her end even before Lex could reach Mashiro. The screenwriters were truly heartless for this move!

  • Kumada’s Divine Reality Shift: Another fascinating point is how Kumada was able to reset the destruction caused by Lex. By channeling Goodburn’s power as the "Prince of Destruction," Kumada ascended to a god-like status. This reality-altering feat was what ultimately stripped Lex of his immortality.

  • The story of No. 1 Sentai Gozyuger Episode 48 concludes with Hoeru standing alone as the possessor of every single ring. He is now granted the right to make any wish he desires. However, a heartbreaking dilemma arises: Hoeru has no personal ambitions or worldly desires. Overwhelmed by grief after losing all his friends, he is left paralyzed, unsure of how to move forward.

Meanwhile, Fire Candle is still looming, determined to have his final showdown with Hoeru. As we head into the series finale next week, what will become of this world? Stay tuned to find out how it all ends!
